Services can include brief therapeutic and skill-building interventions, engagement with natural supports, and strategies to integrate these supports in an effort to de-escalate and stabilize the crisis. Coordination and linkage to follow-up services so program participants remain supported and encouraged after they discharge is a crucial piece to these services.
The goal of Community Stabilization services, as defined by the Department of Behavioral Health and Human Services, is to help stabilize individuals within their communities and support them and their support systems during three key periods:
1. Between an initial mobile crisis response and entry into established follow-up services at the appropriate level of care.
2. As a transitional step-down from a higher level of care when the next service is identified but not immediately available.
3. As a diversion to a higher level of care.
